Why are there non-computer, non-Linux, and non-FLOSS articles on this site?

Some people have commented that there are articles which don't seem to have anything to do with Linux, FLOSS, the Internet, or computers. They're right, but they're wrong. I put up anything which I think is relevant or resonates with me, even if I can't directly explain why. I don't like to be vague about this, but I really can't help it; I think it's a function of the time we're living in.

I'm trying to appeal to a certain type of person, who may live in any country, and who is interested in the major changes which are going on around them. I'm interested in people, and in what they are doing and thinking. I'm especially interested in people who want to risk getting out of the small neighborhood they physically or virtually live in normally, and who want to explore and share the possibilities which are provided to all of us who are connected via computer and the Internet. I'm especially interested in expanding the concepts of Open Source to other areas of human endeavor, as I think we have a long way to go in the application. Let's hear from you and we'll talk about it!

I think...

therefore I may be. :)

Really, if we consider the fact that we are reading these pages, then the internet is involved - and behind the scenes, Drupal and LAMP reinforce FOSS.

I agree, the bottom line has to do with people. People, People, People. Quality of Life. And it just so happens that FOSS increases the quality of life for many people, and it could help more. But just talking tech doesn't help with quality of life.

Understanding the problems of people allows us to understand how better to help people with the tools we have - and that also includes FOSS.

Too often, people get wrapped up in technology to the point where they do not realize that there are people who could use that technology to really make a difference. Technology for the sake of technology is self defeating.

Meanwhile, I've got to burn a copy of MandrakeMove for my Dentist. If you think advocacy is tough, try doing it during a root canal. :P

It was ugly. There were toothpicks everywhere...
