Links for WRT54G Linux Hacks (Update)

I just bought one of these for a project which I don't have time to do right now. I am posting these links mostly for myself but perhaps there are others who can use them.

Update:

For some reason, this page is popular and getting lots of hits from Google and other search engines. So, I'm going to put the intent up here and give some other news. Please create an account and add comments if you have information or other links to add.

What I want to do with this product is to hook up some external I/O to it so that it could be used as a remote block for sensors and actuators. If that sounds like gibberish, let me translate: I want to be able to turn things on and off, or be able to tell if something is on or off, at a remote location. The way I plan to do it is by hacking the icmp.c file to allow a ping command to change or read the state of one or several I/O pins on the processor. To this end, I contacted someone who represents the manufacturer of the processor chip, just to get the pinout and programming information. They said "No, sorry, we don't even give that info to the manufacturers of devices using the chip." This would be, for example, Linksys/Cisco. So, it's reverse engineering time. I'm just now downloading the files from the Linksys site, which are here.
