[US] More Woes for Microsoft Security

From the in ZDNet.uk (English): "If you had 20 vendors of a product, and there was broad consumer and business choice, and people could evaluate them on their merit, that would be one factual setting," said Dana Taschner, the attorney who filed the case against Microsoft. "Instead, you have one company that is dominating the marketplace to such an extent that you really have no choice."

And in an article also from ZDNet.uk today, "A software bug in a common component of Microsoft Web servers and Internet Explorer could leave millions of servers and home PCs open to attack."

We don't live in a hypothetical world where you have a lot of choices. If you are dependent on your computer and its data for your day-to-day livelihood, you owe it to yourself to learn more about security and how to manage your own system, so you are not vulnerable to attacks. The easiest way is to decide now that you are going to be responsible for your own security, and start learning Linux. Maybe you could install it on an old system and play with it, using it for a backup or a firewall. In this way you can learn gradually. You will be amazed at how much more you know after a few months.

This situation is not going to be fixed in a rapid manner, so you can't just depend on Microsoft to do the work for you. Here is an article from SecurityFocus which will give you some idea of why Linux is more secure. Lots of reasons are listed with appropriate links showing the reasoning. How much is this worth to you? Think about it and act now.
