[US] Record Labels Pay up to $40K Monthly, Use P2P Data for Market Analysis
Submitted by Willy Smith on 15 September, 2003 - 01:19.
Article from Wired.com (English)
It's ironic that some major labels are now paying a company named BigChampagne to analyze what users are swapping on peer-to-peer networks. Remember the quote from the LinuxTagOpenMusic site:
'Don't ask "How can I keep people from listening to my music without paying", but rather "How can I make money from my music?". '
Perhaps if the major labels and the RIAA had thought about this before they started suing their customers, they could have come up with a creative solution that would be more in line with what people are actually doing. As it is, they have merely generated enough ill-will to be remembered for decades.
