[New Zealand] Open Source Society Hires Big Dog to Go After SCO

Article from ComputerWorldNewZealand (English)

"Massey University would be faced with a six-figure bill if SCO pressed a licence fee claim for the institution’s Linux-based Helix supercomputer. Parallel computing director Chris Messom says the university is anxious to identify any offending code so it can be removed from the Linux kernel it is running."

People all over the world are obviously getting tired of the FUD. By the time the dust settles, SCO could end up with more liabilities than it will be able to pay; suits against them are already underway in many countries including the US. While SCO's original claims are proving to have less and less merit, thanks to the tireless work and research of many in the Open Source community, the counterclaims against them will not go away even if the suit does have any success. In all likelihood it will eventually end up that Linux is vindicated and SCO receives nothing; but in this case there will be no blood left in the turnip to pay the monetary damages to those hurt by SCO's destructive media campaign.

Eventually, however, the bill will be paid for by both McBride and Gates, by even more migrations to Linux and Free Software solutions. We think their plan is backfiring badly.

Anyone coordinating this sort of effort?

Someone should be coordinating this sort of effort. That is, there should be a web page where somone can look up where they live and see if there is such an effort going on.
