[US] California Court Says Posting DVD Code Not Free Speech
"First developed by a Norwegian named Jon Johansen, DeCSS was intended to let users of the Linux operating system watch DVD movies on their computers, though Hollywood trade groups like the Motion Picture Association of America argued it could be used for illegal disc copying."
This page has 42 ways to get the code in question (although some of the links are broken). It was the first page which came up when I typed "DeCSS code download" into the Google search engine. Be careful where you are when you download the page, as the HTML has the code embedded in it, so you may be violating something by merely accessing the site. The DeCSS code has provoked such a reaction among certain people that you can even download games, movies, and songs which contain the illegal code.
This event is significant in that it shows just how far the gap has become between illegality and reality on the subject of "Intellectual Property".
