[Brazil] After Brazil Announces Switch to Free Software, Microsoft Makes Bogus Announcement
Article from SoftwareLivre.org (Portuguese)
SoftwareLivre.org Home page (more links, Portuguese)
The linked article states that despite the official Microsoft announcement, in fact this was only a possibility, and that nothing had been signed. In addition to clarifying the announcement, another article on the front page of SoftwareLivre.org has a cartoon and some interesting comments about Microsoft's donations to the presidential campaign of current US president G. W. Bush. The link to the homepage is provided above if the reader is interested in such things.
It seems that the Brazilian government suddenly became less confident about Microsoft's concern, that adoption of free software would not help Brazil's local industry. This comment had been made by Microsoft's senior VP of Strategy Chris Mundie during a recent visit to Brazil. Perhaps it was because it seemed to coincide too closely with their decision to adopt Free Software?
These days, all's fair in Love, War, and Software Development.
