[France] Free Music Festival Scheduled for 21-June-2003

Article from l'Apostrophe, an artistic cafe in the 10th arrondissement in Paris (French)

Babelfish version

Free Music site in France, explains the Free Music Public License (French)

Babelfish Translation

This is an announcement for a concert/symposium on Free Music, to be held in Paris later this month. This is important because it shows how the ideas of Open Source, originally only applied to computer programs, are transcending the original scope and translating to a new way of thinking in other areas. In particular the area of music is significant because of the stubborn litigation currently happening over certain areas of activity (like file sharing software) on the internet. The Musique-Libre site in particular has good information on the philosphy of Free Music, its origin from Linux, as well as how it is dfferent and why it is a reaction to the current commercial system. If the translation link doesn't work in your browser because of the frames, you'll have to do a little cutting and pasting.

Too bad Jerry Garcia and Frank Zappa aren't around, they'd probably be enjoying this. If you're interested in this topic, have a look at the www.lapostrophe.org and www.musique-libre.com homepages. You will find some more links in the articles for different groups involved in France and elsewhere.

hi all, & thanks to Willy for this article & inviting us on here :)
more & more links are to be added on musique-libre :
we're preparing the conference, and drilling is fruity : more and more groups releasing their music under copyleft, more and more licences also : this point is complicating our task a bit :)
we're trying among others points to make a panel of all artistic/music licences, comparating them. but anyway, that's only good news !!
