[France] Should Ideas be Allowed to be Patented?
Submitted by Willy Smith on 2 June, 2003 - 20:00.
Article in Chroniques from France-Inter, by Martin Winckler (French)
This article gives a brief yet effective explanation of software patents, and the damage it could cause to Free Software. Again, although most or our readers are already "au courant" about these issues, this article is important because of the number of people it will reach. It also has links to (among other things) the European anti-software patents page, the audio version of the article, as well as to an example of the things that have happened because of gene patents.
Re: [France] Should Ideas be Allowed to be Patented?
Being a Non-Nerd, I was intrigued to see this article on "Worldwatch", as well as the notice for the "Free Music" concert. This is the kind of thing I am interested in.....open source as it relates to the arts and people in the creative fields.
Most artists know about synchronicity; how people all over the world get the same idea ( image, riff, etc) at the same time; It's going to be a wild ride as the patent/copyright freeks try to muscle out the free share folk--and a new marketing challenge for creatives to be able to share their ideas and work--while still making a living at it..
