[UK] Doctor's Organization Ditches Microsoft for Linux
"The controversy over changes to Microsoft's licensing schemes last year forced the RCGP to re-evaluate its infrastructure strategy, starting with email and web operations, according to its IT manager, Tony Betts."
The article states they will also be considering Star Office and other applications.
This type of story is becoming so frequent that it's hard to keep up with them all. For the general public at this point, it's early in the game. And for corporate users, as in this article, the tone is in most cases still "we're keeping our options open". But, this week's news clearly indicates a growing concern at Microsoft, that this trend may already be out-of-control. It will be interesting to see if the SCO lawsuit makes a dent in this, or if Microsoft just gets run over. Meanwhile, out-of-the-box distros of Linux are running very well for even the average user, with all usual applications included.
We'll be watching.
