Hitchhiker's Diary - Hello, World.

For starters this morning, I'd just like to say "media Iraq britney spears survivor kate beckinsale brad pitt prisoner photos friends amber brkich michael moore lynndie england cicada Linux". There, that should help Google and the other robots along.

Next, I'd like to encourage more people to contribute to this site. Now, I'm already sick of World War III, and one of the biggest media lies about in my opinion it is that it hasn't started yet. But there are already plenty of sites about that. What I'm looking for is stories about the good things which are going on due to Linux and FLOSS, and how it's progressing around the world; and also stories which will help people think about things which may be a little outside of their normal context of "reality", in order that they can appreciate this. That's why there are a few articles about culture and language. But, I'd like to include more stories about where you live, wherever that may be.

It's an unfortunate characteristic of the human race that on the whole, we don't seem to learn unless we are forced to by events of our own cause or neglect. So as much as I'd really like to believe that somehow a spirit of peace, communication and cooperation is going to suddenly break out all over the world due to Linux, FOSS, and the Internet, I don't think it's going to happen automatically. But I do think it's a pre-echo of what's going to happen. And I'd like to provide, with the A42 site, some good news on what's going on, to be an encouragement during this time of world weirdness.

Everyone is probably hearing quite enough about all the bad stuff going on in the world. But there's a lot of good stuff, too. One of the brightest spots is Linux and FOSS. And its influence is spilling over into a lot of other diverse areas, including the arts, science, economics and politics. I think it's important that people get these ideas into their consciousness, and that they start thinking that there are positive alternatives to the status quo. So please put your thoughts and links here. If you sign up, you can post articles. Please try to put them in the appropriate section. If you have other suggestions, please leave them here, after this blog; I will listen.

In case this sounds new or foreign to you, the idea is that communities of people are important, that we are all connected, and that we need to cooperate with each other instead of trying to blow each other up. Perhaps being a hitchhiker gives me some advantage in seeing this, but I know that there are plenty of other people out there who also understand about this even if they're not hitchhikers. So again, if any of this resonates with you, please have a try at posting. This site was never meant to be a one- or two-person show. I'd like to hear from people all over the world who can tell about something that's going on in their community (whether virtual or physical), something they resonate that even vaguely connects with the revolution of Linux, FOSS, and the Internet. If you can't write in English, feel free to post in Chinese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, or Greek; somehow, we'll muddle through.

OK...

I get the point... will toss some things up here in a day or so. ;-)

It was ugly. There were toothpicks everywhere...
