This is a significant decision that has long-term consequences. If you've been following what's been going on in the Asian Linux arena, it will seem like a natural step. To others, it may sound like a joke, especially since the company names seem frivolous in English: Red Flag Linux (China), Miracle Linux (Japan) and Wow Linux (Korea). Although it will take some time, the net effect will be to increase these countries' self-reliance and security. It also makes sense in that the idea of "intellectual property" is foreign to these cultures.
It will also be especially interesting to watch the development of new hardware platforms. Read this company overview of CultureCom, the Hong Kong based firm that has started proliferating the Dragon CPU chip as well as Midori Linux. You may find their capabilities and vision to be a surprise.
