A Study In Contrasts. Bill Gates visits Carnegie Mellon University.
Carnegie Mellon recently had Bill Gates as a visitor, and from the press release, 'Gates Speaks on Software Breakthroughs in First Campus Visit', things seem to have gone well.
...Bill Gates, Microsoft Corporation's chief software architect, paid tribute to Carnegie Mellon's "phenomenal contributions" to computer science during his first visit to campus on Feb. 25.
During his lecture in Rangos Hall, "Software Breakthroughs: Solving the Toughest Problems in Computer Science," Gates spoke about the evolution of computing over the years, specifically advances in hardware and software. He congratulated Carnegie Mellon on being a model for computer science education and praised the university for its work in artificial intelligence and speech-recognition. He also said that Microsoft has benefited greatly from the research conducted on campus and noted Carnegie Mellon's work in "trustworthy computing, the most important issue in software today." ...
Pretty good stuff. Of course, nobody mentioned that Microsoft isn't SEI rated. But when you fund a lot of things, it's easy to cough when looking the other way. Where have you heard that one before?
Of course, they say that pictures say a thousand words. Looks like there may be some people coughing without looking the other way.
*Ahem*...

Bill Gates was saying thank you for the amount of $$$ Microsoft has made by grabbing our top researchers.
Also, you will note my blog is on weblogs.asp.net... so 700+ microsofties are reading it -- ha!
I'd like to move my blog now that I've started to veer away from MSFT technologies... I'm just not wanting to loose my number of hits. Maybe after I move back to Silicon Valley!
Also thanks to Canon for providing great stitching software with their cameras!!
